Designed by Judy Kensley McKie, her fancifully designed Monkey furniture features a pair of monkeys with curling tails for the arms and backs. Herrick & White had the honor creating a limited run of handmade bases for 16 chairs and 3 settees. The artist grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts, and graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design.
The path that led Judy Kensley McKie to create her fantastical Monkey Chairs began working alongside her father as a young girl where she learned the basics of woodworking.
After college graduation, McKie constructed furniture for her first apartment out of necessity, then honed those skills building furniture for friends. She began to skillfully incorporate sleek animals into her furniture designs. Her work further developed when she progressed from hand carving features, to casting them in bronze.
Hollywood comedian Robin Williams and his wife had one of McKie's Monkey Chairs in their personal collection.
