The Blue Garden | Design New England Fall 2015

In Newport, Rhode Island, a landscape jewel is lovingly renewed with modern technology and an updated plant list.

The 100-year-old Blue Garden in Newport, Rhode Island was originally designed by the Olmsted Brothers and carried tremendous cachet for years before falling into disrepair. Preservationist and philanthropist Dorrance Hamilton set about to revive the lush gardens, and with the help of several local companies, the result is nothing short of breathtaking. One of these companies was Herrick & White, who built the custom pergolas using Japanese cedar from the original site.
